Audi has confirmed the launch of the limited edition 2023 Audi R8 GT. Worldwide, Audi will produce only 333 units, with 150 allocated for the United States market.
The new R8 comes with 602 horsepower, a 5.2liter V10 FSI engine, and is widely considered the most powerful rear-wheel drive model in Audi history. The rumbling purr of the 10-cylinder engine delivers a maximum engine speed of up to 8,700 rmp, allowing the R8 GT to get to 60mph in just 3.3 seconds and top out speed of 199 mph. The engine valve covers are painted black, a feature unique to the 2023 R8 GT and is equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with even faster shift times.
The new Torque Rear drive mode—exclusive to the 2023 R8 GT—provides more precise and controlled oversteering when the R8 is driven on a track. It offers drivers seven different levels of support. Level 1 provides maximum support with reduced engine torque and a low level of wheel spin. Level 7 provides minimum support with increased engine torque and a high level of wheel spin. This mode is entirely adaptable, and changes incrementally based on driving skills and road conditions. In a nutshell, the R8 learns from the driver, and the driver learns from the R8. The R8 is a premier example of motorsport technology transferring from the track to the highway.
Bollinger Hofe will remain the primary production site, where the R8 GT is assembled by hand with lighter materials and parts. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are designed for both road and track use, making these tires the best options for the R8 GT. These tires, paired with a ceramic braking system aid in reducing the overall weight by 55 pounds; making the curb weight 3,516 pounds.
Additional features include: a CFRP anti-roll bar, made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic; a Carbon aero kit consisting of front splitter, flics, side skirt covers, cW-elements on the sides of the rear bumper, a diffuser, and a rear wing with gooseneck suspension; and leather and Dinamica bucket seats, with integrated speakers as part of the Bang & Olufsen sound system.
This limited-edition sports car is available in three colors: Tango Red Metallic, Daytona Gray Metallic, and Mythos Black Metallic. It also features red seatbelts and the sequential numbering of their R8 GT in the middle of the selector lever, partially matted in the carbon inlay.
There are several additional features that will only be offered in the U.S. market including: carbon side blades, door side sill inlays, exterior mirrors housings, a sport exhaust system, Audi laser lights, dynamic steering, Bang & Olufsen sound system, and an Audi exclusive diamond stitched headliner with red contrast stitching.
Pricing will start at $249,900.
