For the second year in a row, Audi has won the Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) in the performance category. In 2023, RS 3 was chosen for its legendary performance of the unique five-cylinder engine and state-of-the-art driving dynamics with the RS Torque Splitter. The Audi e-tron GT was honored in 2022.
The WWCOTY is determined exclusively by female motoring journalists. A panel of judges selects a winning vehicle based on rigorous criteria for six categories: Best Urban Car, Best Family SUV, Best Large Car, Best Large SUV, Best Performance Car and Best 4x4. The criteria used by the WWCOTY to evaluate vehicles in the performance category include safety, driving, comfort, technology, design, efficiency, impact on the environment and value for money.
WWCOTY described the Audi RS 3 in the award announcement as, “A very sporty model that incorporates all the technology that Audi has developed in circuit racing.” The quattro AWD system is complimented by the new application of the RS Torque Splitter. Together, these systems can actively distribute 100% of the available torque, vastly reducing the tendency to understeer or oversteer when drifting.
The RS 3’s turbocharged 2.5-liter TFSI® five-cylinder engine, one of Audi’s most well-known features, has achieved victories across different motorsport series around the world. The RS 3 offers 401 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque, making it one of Audi’s most powerful engines. The RS 3 goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds and set a lap record for compact cars on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a time of 7 minutes 40.748 seconds.
